Recording Session: Grand Piano

I've always enjoyed piano recording sessions. It's a great feeling when you are standing next to a pro pianist playing a grand piano, even for a minute when you are adjusting the mic placement.

For this session I decided on a simple 3-mic setup to capture the dynamic with accurate frequency response.

Microphones

1. KSM44 x2 Left and Right

2. SM81 x1 Middle

The result is stellar.

I found that panning the SM81 (the middle mic) half way to the left makes the overall tone and stereo image very well balanced.
